Position Description

The Store Manager is an inspirational leader of the Management team, whose main responsibilities are to maximize store sales while effectively managing wage cost and to achieve high standards of visual and loss prevention practices. As the leader of exceptional customer service in their store, the Store Manager is responsible for recruiting and ensuring an employee’s development for future succession. The Store Manager achieves these goals by meeting the Company’s 7 Corporate Objectives, adhering to Company policies and procedures and by being a strong and respected role model to all team members

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Training, Coaching and Development:

  • Partner with the District Manager to ensure all necessary training for the potion is completed
  • Actively participate in their own training by putting into practice what has been learned
  • Provide fair, ongoing and effective training and coaching to all employee so that they can successfully execute their jobs, by using all available training resources to maximum benefit
  • Regularly assess employee performance using available tools and provide constructive feedback on progress and development
  • Hold employees accountable through a fair and consistent performance management process
  • Counsel and effectively resolve performance issues through effective coaching and the use of Performance Improvement Plans and Development Plans
  • Provide training and ensure compliance with all Company policies (eg HE, Administration, Loss Prevention)
  • Provide coaching to employees in accordance with the Company’s performance management policies
  • Terminate employment when all training and coaching methods have been exhausted and additional termination criteria has been met
  • Complete necessary health and safety training and ensure employees meet and adhere to corporate health and safety policy requirements that contribute to a safe work place

Hiring and Succession Planning:

  • React with a sense of urgency to recruitment needs while utilizing all tools available
  • Conduct interviews and extend offers of employment, providing new hire criteria is met
  • Conduct pre-employment checks on potential hires (eg reference checks, credit and criminal checks)
  • Ensure the store is well staffed with skilled and experienced employees who meet Company expectations
  • Commit to retaining the best talent by creating an environment where, fair and just management is practiced and employees feel valued and respected
  • Ensure a consistent and strategic commitment to succession planning
  • Be committed to internal promotion and employee career pathing

Customer Service Excellence:

  • Ensure all employees are committed to providing exceptional customer service, with the support of current customer service tools
  • Ensure all customers have a memorable and enjoyable shopping experience at all times, by providing friendly and knowledgeable service, including product benefits and features
  • Ensure the store is neat, clean and organized (NCO) at all times, including the stockroom/backroom and washrooms
  • Respond appropriately to customer inquiries and concerns and make decisions, whenever possible, in favour of the customer
  • Project professionalism and Company image by adhering to Company dress code policies

Time Management:

  • Effectively utilize time management skills to meet Company objectives, within set timelines
  • Ensure optimal scheduling is being achieved
  • Assign and distribute duties to employees
  • Review and authorize requested time off
  • Review and authorize employee availability changes

Sales and Wage Cost:

  • Ensure store meets sales and wage cost objectives, utilizing available resources to maximize business opportunities and respond strategically and promptly to fluctuations in the business
  • Ensure strategic and successful inventory management, including the prompt completion of markdowns

Visual Merchandising:

  • Ensure visual merchandising and marketing directions are implemented as per visual directives, within required timeframes
  • Participate in execution of visual launches
  • Ensure effective maintenance of Company visual merchandising standards
  • Provide guidance to the visual team of visual execution
  • Maintain a solid understanding of colours, fabrics, trends and designs, including an ability to maximize fashion knowledge

Loss Prevention

  • Assist in loss prevention training for all employees
  • Ensure loss prevention policies and practices are adhered to, in order to achieve shrink target
  • Conduct employee bag checks before and after an employee’s shift
  • Notify the District Loss Prevention Manager of any loss prevention related concerns

Working Conditions

  • Store level
  • Available to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business (evenings, weekends and holidays)
  • Physically demanding work in a store environment
  • Standing on your feet for an extended period of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to climb ladders

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience in retail management
  • Post-secondary education in Retail Management or related field an asset
